Leeds has experienced a 1.7 per cent decrease in highstreet footfall.


This is according to data from BRC-SensormaticIQ by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) from September 2025.

Some businesses in the Corn Exchange say Leeds Heritage Open Days had a “minimal affect” on visitor numbers.

After three years and seven months of fighting, Ukrainians in Leeds feel as though their war has been forgotten about.


Ukrainian refugee and volunteer, Dariia Kovnatska said she gets asked “is war still in Ukraine?”


“We see less news about Ukraine. We don’t see exactly this type of content, like reality,” she said.

Daughter still searching for answers over dad's infected blood death 49 years on

Eric Fletcher, from Northallerton, was 48 when he went in for surgery on February 24, 1976, to have a valve replacement and received a blood transfusion during the surgery.

His wife and daughters were told his operation was a success, and Mr Fletcher went home as normal.

Two months later, he was rushed to the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton after becoming suddenly unwell.

After two weeks in hospital, he died from Hepatitis B on May 5, 1976.

Charity volunteer reflects on journeys to deliver aid to Ukraine's frontline

Mark Farrow, from Richmond, has been working with a fundraising group that provides essential supplies to the Ukrainian war effort.

In September 2024 Mr Farrow drove in a convoy to deliver a medevac vehicle to Lviv, Ukraine.
